Action Research in Education

As educators we know that action research plays a crucial role in decision making. The old adage rings true, “two heads are better than one”. Collectively working together to address issues and solving problems should be a common practice utilized in our schools.

Over the past few years I have seen action research used effectively and efficiently by teachers, campus administrators, and central office personnel. As an instructional leader I want to model the behaviors and expectations I expect. As a current campus administrator I often find myself saying “no” and “yes” quickly without much thought. I need to focus less on checking things off the list and moving to the next item and more on allowing open communication, providing reflective opportunities, and promoting collaboration.

I plan to surround myself with mentors and colleagues that are strong in the area of action research. I am excited to learn more from our coursework, professors, and peers as we work through the Superintendent program.  For now, I will work on giving the quick answers less and allow more time for reflective practice.
