Reflection of Superintendent Interview
Conducted on 1/14/2014
I had the opportunity to interview our Deputy Superintendent
of schools. The interview was conducted the first week of our internship
course. The ability to meet with her early in the course proved to be
beneficial. Outside of the interview questions I was also able to discuss my
areas of interest and the districts areas of greatest need for the internship
program. The interview was very telling. There were a few questions and
responses that stood out to me.
Question #4
What does ethical leadership look like?
A visionary in tune with the communities desires and is
willing and able to trust but verify. One that shows respect and fairness
towards all and that possesses servant leadership.
Ethics is so important as a leader. Knowing and doing what is right speaks volumes. It was interesting to see what her thoughts and feeling were.

Question #6
How do you work to develop a shared vision?
It is important to identify key people that are competent
and respected. You must build capacity and have a vision with alignment of
others and identify key components, not looking for short cuts.
As I begin working on this internship I find that sharing a vision can be complicated. It is definitely a key component and takes buy-in and time.

Question #9
How does the Superintendent accomplish such a wide
ranging strategic planning?
You must have people who are knowledgeable in business,
finance, and supplements. Development,
creation and alignment of strong district goals are important.
In these 2 weeks I am quickly learning how complex the job of a Superintendent is. The number of roles and responsibilities is almost overwhelming. It was nice to hear our Superintendents perspective.

Question #14
Please discuss the importance of organizational
leadership, as well as decision –making and problem-solving skills in
addressing these compliance areas and maintaining positive change.
One must stay apprised of state and federal guidelines. You

making decisions and problem-solving.
The interview opened my eyes to the vast responsibilities
of a Superintendent. Throughout the

people in the right places. I enjoyed having the time to ask questions and
reflect on her responses. I look forward
to leaning more through my internship, coursework, and regular meetings with
the Superintendent.
